The Library Associate Training Institute (“LATI”) works with the Maryland Public Library Systems and Prince George’s County Memorial Library System under the supervision of the Maryland State Library’s LATI Oversight Committee.  As part of LATI’s mission to provide quality training programs for library professionals, we utilize the Blackboard Learning Management System (“Blackboard”) to provide components of our training. 

We care about your privacy and we want to be transparent about the information we collect during your learning process.   This Privacy Policy statement strives to communicate the following:

  • What information we collect;
  • With whom it is shared;
  • How it can be corrected;
  • How it is secured;
  • How policy changes will be communicated; and
  • How to address concerns over misuse of personal data.

The Library Associate Training Institute (“LATI”) works with the Maryland Public Library Systems and Prince George’s County Memorial Library System under the supervision of the Maryland State Library’s LATI Oversight Committee.  As part of LATI’s mission to provide quality training programs for library professionals, we utilize the Blackboard Learning Management System (“Blackboard”) to provide components of our training. 

We care about your privacy and we want to be transparent about the information we collect during your learning process.   This Privacy Policy statement strives to communicate the following:

  • What information we collect;
  • With whom it is shared;
  • How it can be corrected;
  • How it is secured;
  • How policy changes will be communicated; and
  • How to address concerns over misuse of personal data.

 Information Collection, Use, and Sharing 

By use of our on-line program, you acknowledge your understanding that we will collect certain information about you.  LATI will only collect the following information:

·       Work email address

·       Name

·       Library system

·       Supervisor’s name

·       Content that you provide during your assignments, and

·       Other information that you voluntarily give us via Blackboard Classroom Learning Management System.

We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.   However, there may be circumstances where we will be required to disclose your information without prior notice to you, to comply with any applicable legal or regulatory requirements, or if required to respond to lawful requests or court orders.  In the event this occurs, we will notify you as soon as practicable about your rights related to any disclosure. 

Please also be aware that Blackboard may also have access to some of your information through your use of this program as the “data processor.”  You may refer to Blackboard’s Privacy Policy for specifics, https://help.blackboard.com/Privacy_Center .

We will use your information to enhance your learning experience and professional development and respond to you about any problems you are experiencing. Your supervisors and authorized feedback providers will also have access to your information as part of the training program.  We will not share your information with any third-party outside of our organization (other than Blackboard as discussed above), except when necessary to create, manage and improve your learning experience.

Your Access to and Control Over Information 

You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time. You can do the following at any time by contacting us via the email address or phone number listed at the bottom of this page to:

  • See what data we have about you, if any.
  • Change/correct any data we have about you.
  • Express any concern you have about our use of your data.

If you wish to be informed about the personal data we hold about you or if you want it to be removed from our systems, you may contact us.

With certain exceptions, you have the following ways to protect your data:

1.     You may update or delete the information we have on you. Whenever possible, you can access, update or request deletion of your personal data directly within your account settings section. If you are unable to perform these actions yourself, please contact us to assist you.

2.     You may ask to have data corrected. You have the right to have your information rectified if that information is inaccurate or incomplete.

3.     You may ask for a copy of your information. You have the right to be provided with a copy of your personal data in a structured, machine-readable and commonly used format.

4.     You may withdraw your consent to provide data at any time. However, this may affect your ability to participate in this program.

Please note that we may ask you to verify your identity before responding to any of the above requests.

Security 

We take precautions to protect your information.  Our data resides on a third-party server through Blackboard, Inc.  Blackboard, Inc.  is EU-US privacy certified, with security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of information.  In our set-up of the site, we have followed Blackboard’s recommended security protocols to the extent possible.  For your role, we ask that you keep your password to this site secure and not share it with anyone.

Analytics

We may use third-party service providers to monitor and analyze the use of our service to improve your learning experience.

Cookies 

We use “cookies” and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our websites and hold certain information.  Cookies are files with small amounts of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. Tracking technologies also used are beacons, tags, and scripts to collect and track information and to improve your learning experience.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our website.

Examples of cookies Blackboard uses:

·       Sign-in and Authentication cookies to keep you signed in and personalize the services that you use.

·       Preference and Settings cookies to remember your preferences and various settings even if you are not logged in.

·       Security cookies to support security functions and identify malicious activity.

This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by our website.  We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

Notification of Changes

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time.  If we do make changes to our Privacy Policy, notification will be in the form of a prominent notice on our website, prior to the change becoming effective.  We will also update the “effective date” at the top of this Privacy Policy.   If possible, you will also receive an email notification prior to the change becoming effective.

Through the use of our program, you are expressly accepting the terms and conditions contained in this Privacy Policy
